About Bryan

Bryan Basamanowicz has spent more than twelve years developing commercially successful nonfiction books, with projects under his direction generating well over $5 million in aggregate revenue. He’s written or overseen the front-to-back development of over 90 long-form writing projects, including 29 nonfiction books, seven of which reached major Amazon category bestseller lists. His nonfiction work has been featured in Bloomberg, US News and World Report, Entrepreneur, The Millions, and elsewhere.

From Nonfiction Craftsman To Driver of Dynamic Collaborations

Bryan began his career in 2013 as a web and newsletter copywriter, giving voice to brands noteworthy as Aria Resort & Casino, Cirque Du Soleil, Cox & Kings, and Pennant Park. In 2014, Bryan began what would be a 9-year collaboration with ClydeBankMedia LLC on the QuickStart Guide nonfiction series. Bryan quickly became instrumental in the writing, design, standardization, and scaling of QuickStart Guides, helping to evolve the brand from raw idea to a multi-million dollar nonfiction powerhouse.

In 2023, Bryan launched the OneTrueLine ghostwriting and book development agency where he now oversees rich and impactful book writing collaborations with founders, executives, experts, and others with important ideas and stories to share.

A strong believer in the value of human-centered collaborative creativity, Bryan has worked with clients who run the gamut from oil tycoons to tiger moms, from house-flipping celebrities to cryptocurrency gurus, from high-flying commodities traders to clergy. That breadth of experience has reinforced a central belief behind his work at OneTrueLine: every successful authority-building book must give readers a compelling answer to one essential question—“Why should we listen to you?”

Areas of Expertise

Business and Finance

Bryan has written or overseen front-to-back development of 15 business and finance titles (including four Amazon Best Sellers).

Case Study in Commercial Success: Ted Snow’s Investing QuickStart Guide

Bryan’s 2018 collaboration with financial advisor Ted Snow led to the creation of the bestselling Investing QuickStart Guide, a beginner-focused investing primer whose first edition went on to sell more than 60,000 copies. Its success led to an expanded second edition, released in 2022, and a German-language edition published internationally by FinanzBuch Verlag.

The book was frequently cited in finance and money management blogs as one of the all-time best books on investing, appearing on recommended-reading lists alongside such investing classics as Benjamin Graham’s The Intelligent Investor and Burton Malkiel’s A Random Walk Down Wall Street. U.S. News & World Report named it one of its “11 Best Investing Books for Beginners.”

Life and Business Storytelling

One of the key elements that make Bryan’s books stand out is his story-forward approach to writing that he applies to all titles and genres. In addition to books in the business, finance, and tech space, Bryan has completed two feature-length works of creative nonfiction in the memoir and memoir/self-help genres.

Case Study in Legacy Success: Ed Lyon’s To Love Like a Lyon

Following a bad fall at age 83, retired US Marine and business leader, Ed Lyon, found himself unable to hold a pen with enough stability to write the memoir that had been percolating in his mind for years.

Ed found Bryan’s writer-for-hire listing in the Sunday parish bulletin and arranged a meeting. Over the next six months, Ed and Bryan conducted weekly interviews and pieced together decades worth of newspaper clippings, journals, and other artifacts into a 200-page manuscript that told the story of a life well lived.

Ed’s goal was to have his book complete, printed, and in-hand before Christmas of that same year. It would be his one-size-fits-all gift for family and friends. To Love Like a Lyon arrived on December 10th.

Multifaceted Project Management and Book Development Oversight

When it comes to the creation of great books, Bryan believes that strong writing, though a prerequisite for success, doesn’t guarantee it. The best projects emerge from the right combination of writing, design, technical expertise, specialized assets, marketing considerations, and the flexibility to adapt as requirements evolve, all guided by a steady editorial hand capable of holding the entire project together from concept through completion.

As a managing editor and book development strategist, Bryan has overseen complex nonfiction projects involving writers, subject-matter experts, technical reviewers, designers, and other specialists. His work on several prescriptive technology and coding titles, for example, extended beyond the manuscripts themselves to include adjacent GitHub repositories where readers could test code and apply what they were learning in real programming environments. Delivering those books required Bryan to manage not only narrative clarity and instructional structure, but also the accuracy and functionality of highly technical material.

Case Study in Project Management Success: Jonathan Reichenthal’s Cryptocurrency QuickStart Guide

When academic, author, and technology expert Jonathan Reichenthal, PhD, set out to create a definitive and accessible guide to cryptocurrency, he brought exacting standards to a subject that was both technically complex and changing in real time.

Building a team capable of meeting both those technical demands and Reichenthal’s editorial standards proved difficult. As writers came and went, Bryan preserved the project’s institutional memory, maintained alignment with Reichenthal’s vision and standards, coordinated successive contributors, and continually helped move the manuscript toward completion. He also contributed wherever the project demanded it—from shaping key stories and creative elements to technical writing and substantive editorial work. More than anything, however, his role was to keep an unusually difficult project alive, coherent, and moving forward until the finished book was finally delivered.

Non-Writer Identities

Bryan is a father, youth baseball coach, mediocre pianist, enthusiastic blitz-chess player, and inveterate journaler who is trying to record the blur of parenthood before too much of it disappears.

His path to professional writing and book development was not entirely conventional. After college, Bryan managed retail stores for Verizon Wireless until his candid essays about corporate life appeared on one of the internet’s most popular blogs—and helped get him fired. He later spent three months traveling through India, reading, writing, and doing a great deal of thinking about what he wanted to do next. Writing, fortunately, stuck.

Outside of work, Bryan spent six years leading his local Saint Vincent de Paul charity and has helped launch everything from a parish fish fry and family outreach ministry to a city-league softball team. He lives less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean and, somewhat belatedly for a coastal Californian, is learning to fish and surf.
